Price check on ai?sle three - current market value of Caribbean intake

A Packard owner is looking for a Caribbean 2x4 intake. The only one he's found, the would-be seller is asking $3,000 just for the intake. That's several orders of magnitude more than he was expecting to pay, so I said I'd take it to the forum:

1. What would you say is the current market value for the intake manifold?

2. For the complete setup - intake, correct carbs, lines, linkage, air filter?

3. For the correct carbs?

The Caribbean engine I sold to 64Avanti had the 2x4 on it. most I came across was $1,000. I know he has the intake for sale for $1,000.

While I was entertaining using the intake, I located a set of Carbs and linkages, the asking price rebuilt was $3,000.

The Air cleaners I found were $1,000-$1,500

That said, I personally would not pay more than $5,000 for a complete setup. In the end, it was not worth 5k to me for an additional 35 Ponies under the hood.

Someone needs to check my recollection, but wasn't the 1x4 374" rated @ 290hp and the 2x4 @ 305hp? That only fifteen additional horsepower and pretty expensive ones to buy and maintain.

Me, I did it for the bling. Here's the Caribbean in my Studebaker pickup.

Note the air filter housing will fit the right way in the truck as opposed to the wrong way in the Packard/Cadillac/Chevrolet.

Also, I converted the Rochesters to electric choke.

Most of the Caribbean parts I've seen recently were pretty crusty/rusty/missing. To round up everything and get it in this condition was a long, expensive process. But it's not about the horsepower; it's about the look.

My intake was under 1000, while it isn't for sale I wouldn't let it go for less then 1250-1500. I've seen one on eBay go for 2500.

The air cleaner I wouldn't sell for less then 2250-2500, but mine is in very good shape. Lesser shape I've seen for 1200 or so. Mine is not for sale.

I have dual carbs, but not the correct matching pair. I have no stove pipe or linkage. My whole setup would be 4200-4500 if I were to sell whole.

These are "not for sale" prices so adjust accordingly for someone needing the money quick.

I'm sure some will call me crazy, but how bad does one want a setup like this.... Know what I mean.

I'm doing mine for the bling and bragging rights as well.

I'm looking for the 55 carbs. Can they be made up from other carbs?

Over the past few years I've seen quite a few 55 and 56 Caribbean setups, complete with rebuilt correct carbs by Daytona, all linkages and fuel lines, manifold, and nicely restored bat wing filters for sale at Hershey. $5000 was the asking price and they sold quickly.

My 56 Packard Brochure lists the 56 Packard 400 and Patrician at 290hp and the Carribean at 310HP.The Executive is rated at 275hp.Of course, it has the 352 not the 374.

that ebay price is very reasonable considering it comes with the almost more rare valley cover.

and here is the other half....in excellent shape.
