What a coincidence!
On eBay right now is a letter from Theo. Roosevelt to Henry B Joy (along with a Detroit Free Press newspaper article) thanking him for his service in Mexico. ebay.com/itm/1916-Theodore-Roosevelt-Sig ... n-6-Mexico-War-wt8789-/350971751674 However, this newspaper article says that Joy was driving a Twin Six sedan with a machine gun mounted on the hood that was captured from the Mexicans. The Packard in the photo does NOT appear to be the camper as shown in the Hemmings article. The I found this item in Automobile Topics, dated June 24, 1916 on page 685 and 685 books.google.com/books?id=3vRZAAAAYAAJ&pg=PA685&lpg=PA685&dq=henry+joy+packard+mexico&source=bl&ots=08pxXDbYbd&sig=lcK5tUkmV6TjuZuuQINuwg1imLo&hl=en&sa=X&ei=8VutVIW2KM73yQTRiYHgCw&ved=0CCcQ6AEwAQ#v=onepage&q=henry%20joy%20packard%20mexico&f=true This says that the order Packard received from the U.S. Govt. was for 56 machines and the Govt. would send a special train to the Packard siding the next day. Fourteen hours later 28 trucks were loaded and on their way. In March another 29 were delivered. The AT article also says that, "He [HBJ] travelled in a Packard Twin Six, wit a truck bringing up the rear, carrying camp equipment and supplies." So I wonder if the "truck" was actually the Twin Six Camper or was it really a truck ? Finally, the 1916 Packard Camper is in the collection of The Henry Ford Museum.
