I looked the 237476 up in my old National books and got 5932 as a replacement, however I can't get an interchange for that number. Max Merritt has the seal listed so some thing will fit it. If you can give me the shaft size and bore size plus the width I will see what I can find for you. Dell

Peter,
Have you spoken with Wade? Although he probably sourced his from Max he might have found some locally through ABC Bearings!

Thanks Dell and Mal, I called Wade and he didn't write the numbers down. As the Technical Officer for the Packard Automobile Club of Australia, I am feeling somewhat inadequate with regard to being able to advise members, and others, about the general seal applications and Part Numbers regarding Packards. I have a wealth of listings for bearings, ignition items, etc but not much for seals. Surely someone/ some organisation has published a listing of seals used in Packard Automobiles. I am not talking about Packard Part Numbers, but about Victor/National/Skf/CR whatever Part Numbers for specific Packard Models..as per bearing listings. Does anyone have or know of a listing, it would surely only cover half a dozen A4 pages? I would be prepared to pay for this listing but have not seen one. Any clues? Peter Toet

The Victor number for the front wheel seal is 49261 for 1938 1603-1605 and I believe for 1937. Sizes given are 2 X 3.003 X 15/32
The 1602,1702-1705 use Victor 49215. With sizes 1 3/4 X 2.754 X 31/64

Hello Convert, Thanks for the info....I was wondering if you could also look up Packard Number 237477. Front hub seal for 15th to 17th Series Twelve. I have reconditioned the master and rear slaves on my ex Lionel Barrymore Twelve (1608) so, the front slaves are probably next on the list. I have attached a pic of my RHD 1603 Super that I currently need the hub seals for. Best Regards, Peter Toet

My Victor catalog leaves the V12 for 1937 blank for the front wheel seals. My National seal catalog lists 37-38 V12 front wheel seal as 5931 for 1506,1507,1508,1607,1608 as replacing Packard 237477 (2 9/32 X 3.160 X 9/16) Hope this helps you.
Really a nice car that you have, best of luck Gary Kulp

I used my national interchange book and came up with 5932 for 49261 victor which does't cross to a good number. I used the dimensions to come up with 472397 for the 1603-5.
Had the same problem with 49215 victor which is 5827 national, dimensions goes to 472179 for the 1602, 1702-5. I did not check to see if these are good numbers, but many numbers are listed for the dimensions that were listed. The numbers 472397 and 472179 are numbers that are the most popular.
