I've never seen a 54 conv. that wasn't an Ultramatic. Was it converted to manual you think?

Probably converted by a dealer or subsequent owner; Ultramatic was standard equipment on the '54 convertible.

Hi Packard0

For 1954, Ultramatic was only standard equipment on Patricians and Caribbeans, all others were still stick shift, at least that's what one source list, though I'd defer to Dave's greater detailed knowledge.

Not everyone was sold on automatics then, many distrusted their reliability and long-term durability. A stick with overdrive was still the first choice of many drivers who liked to be in more full control of the car's operation.

Here's a couple more pre-war choices:

A lovely '36 120B convertible coupe, very nice but Senior priced:

A '37 115C sedan, just needs a re-upholstery BAD! The infamous pink vinyl interior victim:

I differ with 58L8134 on Ultramatic not being standard equipment on The Converbible, at least based on the information in Packard's Data Book:

Replying to Bryan's question from 11/26, by the taillights that is a junior (110-120) car body. The senior (160-180) taillights had larger wrap-around lenses that provided a sidemarker functionality, some twenty-eight years before side marker lights became the law of the land.

Hi

That '54 Clipper Sportster shows up on CL for $5,500 here:
atlanta.craigslist.org/atl/cto/5295929486.html

Now, Copart is trying to auction it for $12K, their estimated retail valued listed at the bottom at $38K!

Amazing how some cars get so much more valuable depending upon who is selling them.......

It's a small Packard world with this internet thing.....
