[1930-726] 7:06 am: Advice, Opinions needed! ready to enter into a new realm and that is to buy for the first time a collector car; which i absolutely know nothing about. here is the car: 1930 packard sedan, model 726 with 10,130 miles on it, after it was completely restored. told owner/collector put/invested over $100,000 to restore it.


And my advice? Buy it, it's a Packard!

Seriously, I'll leave the advice and opinions to others. But if you do buy it this is a terrific Site for help should you need it as there are plenty of friendly, knowledgeable and experienced Packard people here.

And don't forget to please add it to the Owner Registry together with a pic, any known history and how you came to find and acquire the 726.

Yes, Guscha, I think our 'Man from Oz' has given us all "Mal-wonderful" advise.
Perhaps the original poster has already bought the vehicle. He hasn't posted on this thread, yet.
If he is considering a $100,000 purchase, it doesn't sound like he might be in the 500,000 layoffs in the most recent tally.

You can tell the poster that 7th series cars were extremely well put together. I have been taking mine apart now for a year, and the build quality, materials quality, and attention to detail is amazing. These are stout, elegant cars that were definitely built with pride.

However, $100,000 for such a vehicle is probably too much. What body style? If enclosed, $60K is topping the value for a very well restored or extremely high mark original.

These old cars are not banks. Just because we put money into a car doesn't mean we can get all that money back out of a car. Especially money paid to professional restoration folks.

Your number ($60,000) is probably more accurate.

I probably won't be going back to Forum member 1930-726. If I find a query in the Chatroom, I copy it, post it in the appropriate Forum and send the Forum member a PM about my actions. From there I leave it up to the Forum member to take up the running. I'd say about 50% do, because about half the PM's I've sent remain as unread!

They may miss the tag on their inbox. I have missed it several times when I wasn't specificly looking for it. I thought about having kev make it more noticeable in some manner.

Thanks anyway for 'scouting out' the chat rooms, whether the post-writers respond here to your PInfo link/posting or not. You DO bring us some interesting conversations!
(It also takes some of the burden for 'being interesting' off of Guscha, though he seems to bear it well on his own.)

Randy, I will look into it.

I think there are a lot of folks who come onto the website and never login, but just read throught the website. You only need to login to post, or add something to the website.

So if those folks never login back in, they would never see the message that they have a PM.

In my opinion, a $100K for a 7-26 Sedan is quite expensive. I would tell this guy that half will be a good purchasing price, and something from $60K to $70K would be its real price.

I'm considering that the car is in nice condition, nearly a Show Car ready to drive.
