Now I have a fair amount of experience on cars from the '60-'80 time period but this is something I have never seen!
General consensuses is that while this was the correct resistor rotor, combined with modern resistor plugs and wires, there was likely too much resistance in the system and the rotor burned up. The points & cap looked as good as you would expect after 4K.
Fast forward & I call Mike in Duluth and he gives me some numbers of guys in Traverse City and I reach Robert Stolzfus from PA at dinner and he has a new rotor!
Flat bed operator hauls me back to the convention center, Robert finishes dinner and the deal is made in the parking lot.
Needless to say, he saved my bacon! I might STILL be sitting there!
The remainder of the trip went well and I have decided to try a conventional, non resistor rotor with the modern plugs & wires with the theory being that the secondary ignition system will think it's 1965 instead of 1955.
And I will carry spare parts:)

I have seen many of those Delco resistor rotors fail. The last one was a couple of years ago during the Texas Packard Meet's Early Bird Tour. He changed to a non-resistor rotor and carries a like spare in the Caribbean. No more problems.

Seems to me resistor spark plugs with non-resistor wires and rotor is a good way to go.

At the "Shakedown" in Oshkosh, WI.
It has been sort of an expensive summer, I had to replace the battery, fan & radiator. I'll let you connect the dots :(

Is that paint code AC?
Looks like the colors used on the MAC Caribbeans.

Paint code is "A", would that indicate a solid color?

Next step is to chase a lean condition during acceleration.
Seems carb related but perhaps it is best to start from scratch again-dwell, timing, vac advance, etc.
Had awesome weather yesterday & attended, displayed @ a steam show, followed by a cruise in for dinner.

Beautiful car and nice blog but a big surprise to learn about Clean Sweep Wiper Service in Terrebonne, OR since my workshop and all my Packards are there, and I'll be there myself in a couple weeks! Were you happy with them?
