Have my 1942 160 in the paint shop right now, and want to repaint to a two tone. Can some of you perhaps find some color photos of the '41 or '42 senior cars with a two tone paint job. I am trying to get ideas of colors and scheme. Will be much obliged. Please send pix to my email address: auto.nut@charter.net

When looking at the '42 chip charts, be aware that the upper/lower '41 colors were reversed in '42 for the Clippers. I don't know if that was the case for the non-Clipper models.

Below is a scan of the color choices for Packard in 1942 according to DuPont.

Only 4, two-tone combinations were offered. And, yes, the darker color was on top with the lighter color below.

C: Puritan Gray Metallic over Silver French Gray Metallic

F: Legion Blue Metallic over Algiers Blue Metallic

M: Wilshire Brown Metallic over Andes Tan Metallic

P: Grove Green Metallic over Chickory Green Metallic

Make sure your painter adds the metallic base in the correct proportions. I see too many restorations with NO metallic base used.

I think the point about figuring out the practice on traditional bodies is good advice. There were senior cars in 42 in both body types.

The light over dark is I think more visually flattering as it decreases visual mass and height. The 41-2 colors are generally tone - on - tone as you see.

To add to the metallic comment, the flake used back then was fine - finer than typically used in modern paint. Specify accordingly
