The checkered board floor and a wire and black sharpie make a 5 foot compass to layout the sheet metal.

Last weekend we were in Texas for business so no progress on the Packard. I got an hour here and there this week to make a little progress... the door jams are formed and welded in place... the master cylinder bracket has been designed, fabbed up and painted... gas tank sandblasted.
This weekend should see the progress on the body

It is getting exciting... today the rear deck got cut out and formed. I used 14 gauge steel to give it a good foundation. If all goes well tomorrow I'll get it all welded down to the frame. Next I'll frame out the boat tail.

Today's update is the rear deck is welded down and the grinding is about done. I started forming the bottom radius for the boat tail. This is a 1 1/2" exhaust tube split long ways into 1/3ds. I used my shrinker and stretcher to shape the piece. A little dolly and hammer work to remove the gross marks.
Hopefully this weekend the tail will really start to take shape.

Just came in from the shop. I'm having fun with making the shape of the curves. Tomorrow things should really start shaping up.

Here is an update after today's efforts.
Video... youtu.be/_VJ7dEVD7QY The second picture shows the left side formed very close to what it will be and the right side straight.

Mike,
You're excited? I reckon you should be, the boat tail is coming along nicely. I'm enjoying following your progress.

Thanks Mal this is the first time I have shared my therapy work in a blog. It is nice to have the documentation and reliving the progress while posting has some value also... it is also kool that others are interested.
Tonight I was able to make the right rib and tack everything together. I have a boat tail!

I also started the rounded point at the tip of the boat tail. The progress on this piece is two beers worth... I believe it will take a few more to get it done
