Hi guys, I'm new here and was looking for some help with a car I'm looking to trade into. Owner states it is a 49 Packard Deluxe Super 8. I was looking through this website and there a lot of different models yet I don't think I found the exact one he told me. Is there a way to tell the model without getting engine or body tag info? Car is all original besides one paint job back in the 90s, and he says the 22k miles are original. What's a car like this go for? I love the look of it but I'm in the business of buying, selling and trading so that's what I'd be doing with this after some fun with it. Any help would be appreciated. Any info I might need I can ask the owner. Thanks for your time.

It's a 22nd series car (late 1947 - early 1949). It's either an Eight Deluxe with the 288 in3 engine, or a Super Eight with the 327 in3 engine.

It is a 22nd Series Deluxe Eight body model 2262, not a Super Eight

Thanks for the info guys. I'll have to get back with the owner to see why he thinks it's the Deluxe Super 8? I don't see many of these cars online for sale or sold, can you give me any inside on what a person might pay for a car like this in this condition. Again he states it's still all original with only 1 repaint and 22k miles. What would a Packard lover pay for a car like this? Hagerty (where I normally check out prices from) shows from $5,700 in Good condition upwards of $12,500 in Excellent condition. The truck I'm looking to trade, a 58 Chevy Apache is worth no less than $15k so I don't want to trade and then have a hard time selling the car. I respect these old cars and love the big body but I'm not looking to keep it. Again, any help is appreciated!

Good Morning...You might also wish to look at the listings for Packard Automobiles on the Packardclub.org site and also on Hemmings.com. The Packard site will have 50 or so cars and the Hemmings site will have 150 or so. Both sites will have a few 22 series Packard Automobiles. Ernie

It appears to be a correct car, a fine example of the type. That said, it's a junior sedan and these were built in large numbers, so no mega bucks.
I really can't comment on your truck's value, but 15K should buy a very nice example of this model, which this appears to be.
You couldn't restore one for that, but you're not going to get rich flipping it either.

Correct me if I am wrong but the metal piece around the speedometer should be chrome, not black. The inset with PACKARD between the speedo and clock appears to be missing (hard to tell from the pic).

The fuel bowl has been removed and an inline fuel filter in place.

Odd that a car, supposed to be fancier than the 2292, doesn't have an oil filter. I realize this was a dealer add on at the time. Why not add an oil filter (I think it was $2.94) but it has am auto clutch?

I see a lot of these for sale on Ebay, Autotrader and Hemmings.

Lots to ponder on this one.

I thought the 22nd series had a split type front bumper not the solid one piece as pictured. The speedometer bezel with the Packard was introduced on the 23rd series to the best of my knowledge.
