For sale is a solid 1947 Packard DeLuxe 8 Clipper in Vanderbilt Grey, originally delivered to a dealer in Asbury Park, NJ in the fall of 1947.

Options: Straight 8; 3 speed; Overdrive; Electromatic Clutch (semi-automatic); dual heaters; radio.

Car last ran about 5 or so years ago; I bought this car from an active local AACA member who has 5 or 6 other classics. Most of the decay and rust that it has (which isn't much for a 70-year-old car) was caused by sitting outside under a car cover for the last 8 years. It was on a concrete driveway, so didn't get as much damage as it would have had it been parked on dirt.

That said, the body is pretty solid. I believe the body is original, except for a repaint on the roof.
There are 2 areas at the rear of sail panel that need patched (about 2" x 4 or 6" each), a couple small holes around rear window, and a quarter-sized spot in the trunk; one or two spots under the car that have some rust-through.
I stripped old floor covering and carpet and there is no rot in the floors. The frame is solid.
This car got a double- or triple-undercoat when new. I have treated the areas behind most trim with RustBullet as well as the bumpers to check the rust; did the same in trunk and painted it with black Rustoleum.

Car is complete, never hit, and all trim is present except some for the front fenders that was too far gone to save.
Original hubcaps are very good with no rust. Has all 5 trim rings as well.
The steering wheel, gauges, and interior trim are all in pretty good shape; needs new seat covers and headliner.

The door panels can probably be re-used with a good cleaning after replacing the weatherstripping. Most of the side glass is starting to de-laminate, but windshield and back window are decent. It is all flat glass, so inexpensive to replace.

Engine turns over; changed oil and checked other fluids. Drained gas tank.
Radiator doesn't leak, at least when it is not running.
Brakes work but should be rebuilt.
Clutch is free.
Needs exhaust and tires.

The old wiring harness was dry rotted everywhere outside the dash, so I purchased a street rod-type universal 6 volt wiring harness with modern fuses and have partially installed it.
New set of main 6v bulbs for dash.
Pertronix electronic ignition and coil in box.
New Optima 6v battery.
New factory-type data plate, but have original.
High quality wiring diagram (color, laminated).
New outside car cover.

Current Values, Per Hagerty:
#1 Concours $32,400
#2 Excellent $19,000
#3 Good $10,300
#4 Fair $6,800

NADA says low retail, $6525, to average retail, $16,600.

Clean VA title in hand. $3750. firm.
Located in Virginia Beach.

Mal,

I talked to John at the local AACA meet last month and was informed that he has sold this car. It went to a person located in Richmond, Virginia about 6 months ago. He shared a photo of the car which has almost been completely restored.
