I suspect that a well-tuned 1936 120 in one of the lighter body styles could reach 80 mph and perhaps a bit more. Anyone have any contemporary performance data?

From what I can see with bad eyes and the photo cutting off ends of the car, the black car in the photo you asked about appears to be a Cadillac.

Not sure what year or model the Cadillac is but the smallest engine it could have would be the 346 cubic inch flathead V8. If it's a 1940 or 1939, depending on the model, it could have the 431 cubic inch flathead V16.

I remember watching a show on TV many years ago (more than once) about the Ed Hermann car. The show covered the project when it was being restored. As I recall, it was a conservative effort (e.g., the engine was not rebuilt, just refreshed). Love the tobacco color. Glad to see it is still being used and shown. I had the privilege of seeing it at Pebble Beach. JWL

Ok. The 120 engine was introduced at 257 cubic inches, going to 282 a year (or was it 2 years?) later. The senior 8 cylinder engines were 320 and 385 cubic inches.

There you go. It was a 282, well that's what he told me.
Are any of you part of the Los Angeles Packard Chapter?

O_D, the 257 cubic inches is a 1935 only, 282 started in 1936. IIRC the stroke became a little longer.
