Thank you to everyone for sharing pictures of the NY taxis. I find out more about them in each picture. This latest picture shows the luggage rack painted lower body color (orange). Every bit of information will help in a correct restoration. Thanks again.

Interesting that the rear door of the '46 Packard says Checker Cab Co, even though it is clearly not a Checker... :)

Note that on the Clipper taxis there are external handles to release the hood. One on each side. JWL

I just returned from the Packard National Meet. We went to Citizens Motor Cars in Dayton and they have a 48 Packard taxi on display. The placard in front pointed out that the clock face in a taxi says PACKARD CABS instead of the usual 1 through 12 numerals. I had to look inside, I thought this was such a neat touch.
The next day, I pointed out this oddity to my friend, Joel Ray who has dealt in Packard parts for many years. He said that he had this clock in his extensive inventory for about 15 years, but had just sold it within hours of me mentioning it. Who'd a thunk it!
