Mal, you're going to be known as the Flackmaster 2.0 or the Malmaster!

Think I'll stick with the sobriquet "Ozstatman".

"Malmaster", from my perspective, just doesn't have a good ring about it. Growing up, my name was always getting thrown back at me as Maladjusted, Malevolent, Mal-this, Mal-that. Although not too badly mentally scarred by these experiences, the conotation just doesn't sit well, even many long years later.

DF, the "Flackmaster", has earned his sobriquet by dint of his vast Packard knowledge and experience. I can't compete with that!

Mal, I didn't like my first name until I was in my late 20's.
I never met another Mal till I was in my forties. But I finally got to like it at work because it was unique and has a great history. Whenever someone said "Mal-----" I knew they were talking to or about me - no doubt.

Randy,

I've known a number of Mal's over the years, a couple of them where I worked. Australia has also had 2 Prime Ministers named Malcolm, one of whom, in Memphis, lost his trousers! The other is the present Prime Minister and its looking likely he'll loose office in the near future. Haven't actually met them, but, in a number of health professionals offices they have had other Malcolm Harris's on their patient lists!

Quick question:

What is the thread size and count of Packard wheel lug bolts?

Reason I'd like to know is in regard to changing the set of wheels I have onto the '48 Limo chassis just to move it on and off the trailer.
Although I've been assured they'll fit, I'm not quite convinced and nervous as a result. I'm thinking some longer bolts of the same thread size and count may come in handy if I have to improvise. I didn't find anything in the way of bolts of the same size in my junk box so need to buy bolts of the right size. It'll be too late when we're at the chassis, it's literally in the midddle of nowhere, so I want to get things organised now.

I have the bolts in both 1/2-20 and 7/16-20, going from memory, and I believe the smaller size was from my 1940 110s but not sure. The lengths, though, are the same or very close to it.

Thanks Don,

I'm thinking it's likely to be the 1/2-20 because, as far as I know, no 110's are in this equation.

And tomorrow I intend to visit Lee Bros, a specialist fastener supplier here in Oz, with lug bolt in hand, to ensure I secure bolts with the right thread.

Friday 7th September, 2018

Out in the garage getting "stuff" organised for Sundays trip to Bodalla to pick up the Limo chassis and engine when I got distracted. Distraction is quite easy for me and in this instance it concerned hubcaps, although I'm not sure I should give them that title after the comments in this thread!

I picked up 4 x '48 driver quality "hubcaps" for my Packard about a month back but they are smaller in diameter than the ones currently on the '50. The '48 caps are 10 & 1/8" outside diameter and cover just the center of the wheel while the '50 caps are 12 & 3/4" outside diameter and cover more of the wheel. The inside diameter for both is 7 & 1/2" and they both fit my '50's wheels . Not knowing there were different hubcaps for 22nd and 23rd Series Packards I turned to Big Kev's Packard Hub Cap and Wheel Cover Identification Guide in the Packard Literature and Manuals section of the Website which shows only 1 hubcap for 1946 to 1950 Standard and Super Eight Packards.

Attached is a screen shot from Big Kev's Guide together with a photo of my 2 different but similar habcaps. Can anyone shed some light on the different hubcaps?
