I recently contacted the classic car dealer I purchased my car last year to ask what type of oil was put on when they did their last oil change
Before I purchased it
He stated they put in valvoline vv235 which is sae 50 raving oil high in zinc and phosphorus I am going to get an oil change and am concerned about that weight oil car is never driven in cold winter weather here in ny car shows 105,000 mikes on odometer

Am I safe to replace with same oil? Again not driven or started during very cold winter months or can someone tell me what oil will be correct manual states sae20

If I were a "Classic Car" dealer looking to quiet down a loose & noisy engine, 50wt would be perfect.
Otherwise, it is inappropriate.

64avanti's assessment is probably closer to the truth than might be desired.

Anyway, contrary to what many say, I use pure synthetic oil whenever I change it. Generally I'll use a multi-viscosity because single viscosity is sometimes difficult to find for synthetic but I'm sure it's available in less rural areas than this. If the engine is fresh and tight, something like a 10-30 or 10-40 but for older engines maybe 20-40 or something like that. I know there will be lots of people who disagree but I've never had any problems when doing this.
