Did you follow the line to see where it goes? Though different than 1933/1934 system I'm sure it's the check valve on the vacuum feed to the power brake booster. Looks like the same type of check valve used on the Twelvesfor the power boosted brakes and clutch.

Looks like someone doped/wrapped the threads on the fittings. A common sight here and other sites. No need to do that as the seal is made in seats in the fittings not with the threads. Pipe fitting threads are tapered and provide the seal for those types of fittings.JWL

Thank you for the information. I wrapped the threads. I was trying to be thorough and obviously had no idea where the real sealing takes place. Thank you for adding to my Packard education. There's so much to learn.
Thanks again, Crin

Most other threads that are washer-seal or machined face seal like JIC or flare, etc., are not assisted with pipe dope or Teflon tape. Chris

In re-reading JWL's wording, it's possible we're both saying the same thing. If that's the case, sorry for the miscommunication! Chris

No worries, John - I just always worry about someone taking it the wrong way and the whole thing descending into the classic 'war of words' and there's definitely nothing to be gained there. Thanks for your reply. Chris
