On my '55 Caribbean there were a few spots on the engine that needed some paint help. I sent them a bolt to have them match the color and they mixed me up a quart of engine single phase enamel paint. It cost $70 to match the color and then of course the cost of the paint.

That's a good idea but I don't think there is enough left on my engine to match! The Opal paint sounds like a close-enough match but I can't find it either but I've not looked too hard yet.

The proper fuel pump kit arrived today and I see it contains two fuel pump mounting gaskets and the car also had two on it. Is this needed or was it just someone being lazy when the pump was replaced in the past?

Interestingly the old diaphragm was still very pliable but, of course, I replaced it and the valve seals were hard. The Carter pump was remarkably easy to rebuild.

Packards often had a spacer mounted between the pump body and the engine crankcase or block like the attached photo of my 1933 1002 Eight shows. The spacer is 3/8 inch thick. Thus the need for 2 gaskets. My 1954 Convertible with the 359 engine does not have a spacer so I'm not sure when Packard stopped using them. The kit you have probably would fit pumps from several years so 2 gaskets are supplied.

I've seen those thick insulators but they weren't even there by the time my 1940 Packards were made although the gaskets did have some thickness to them and there were insulators around the screws. For 1955 and 1956, the gaskets were paper-thin but I thought it odd that there were two in the kit unless it was a spare.
