Brian,

Thanks for the pic's, a lot of work there in designing and fabricating not to mention the innovation required to come up with the solutions you have. A different touch to come up the grimy and dirty look, more real world than show car. But I think we've hijacked Gerd's thread long enough, so as your project moves along could you start your own thread and post updates there?

Sorry, I didn't mean to hyjack the thread. (With these sub-divided forums I'm never sure whether to continue a thread or start a new one.)

Thanks for your kind words,

Brian

Brian,

Rather than you, it's me who hijacked the thread using the royal plural. Nothing to be sorry about.

Maybe start a seperate thread for the scale models. That way the pics can all be together. I'm already comming up ideas for questions about the models.

Those are some awesome looking cars, thanks for sharing. Kevin, do these fit in a pictures category that we already have?

Packard cousins? Other than Packards? Based on Packards?

Gerd, what's the hole opposite the clock in the rear divider for?

Interesting the switches look like 55-6 Packard style but appear to work from side to side.

As to the hole, lets start off with altimeter, barometer, extra speedometer, second clock for another time zone--Moscow or Washington for example--, ashtray, vodka or schnapps dispenser. Little too obvious for ejection seat as I'd think that one would be closer to armrest.

If that's the one the poster had for sale @ $60k, it doesn't appear to be strictly stock--hope he found a buyer. Not sure even your parts would fit it anymore.

The fellow standing next to it reminds me of the senior member of a family that has(had) a TV show where they build custom motorcycles. Always yelling at someone, kicking holes in something & slamming doors. He's got that "come touch this car & I'll unscrew your head" look.

Aside from the Chaika looking to be about 10 ft longer, am not sure who tried to copy whose tail section--but I think the 57 Packard has it on the overhang.

Interesting with the divider window. When I first saw the black wagon, thought it was a hearse. Now the white looks more like an ambulance. Were these used for the leaders instead of limos at their dachas.

The tailgates were split on the 57 Studebaker and 57 Packard (also several other wagons of the time). Some of them had a little step or ladder that would flip out and over when the bottom half was opened so it was easier to get inside.

I just thought it interesting the Chaika taillight looked like the Packard top red half, bottom backup light half and the Studebaker oval in the middle. Overhang on the Chaika looks about half the others.
