So I have been looking for a exhaust manifold for a 1939 super 8.No luck so far.I was wondering if anyone knows if an earlier model super 8 would be the same manifold.I would still have to locate one but it may open my options Thanks

I understand the engine is similar/identical? to the '37-38.
My '37 parts book lists the
Exhaust Manifold Assembly as part # 219826.
I don't have a '39 parts book to verify it.

The 1935-1941 Master Parts list shows the 17th Series Super Eight Model 1703-3A-5 exhaust manifold assembly as part number 334552, not a match for the 1937. The '40 and '41's carry different part numbers so they're not directly interchangeable either. Even the manifold gasket sets carry different part numbers from year to year. It seems that only a 1939 manifold will fit a 1939 engine.

To quote one of the old timers: "39 is all together different."

I discussed this topic with Fred Kanter and he said:

"The only difference between the 37 & 39 Super 8 exh manifold is the attachment point for the the air cleaner bracketry.

Manifolds will interchange and look 98% correct, gaskets are the same. All 320" manifolds 33-39 are extremely scarce.

Although it won't be 100% original you can easily make one air cleaner fit the other."

Hope this helps you

Empire. Need I say more. They were provided unmachined. They were originally a PI project. PI is no longer involved. DFields in ElPaso was sorta brokering a couple a few years ago, because he was actually able to have possession - haven't heard a word since. OH, and they were in the neighborhood of 4 grand. Any more questions?

Does anyone remember this one that was being cut up to make a trash rod?

He offered the motor on this site.

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone in the USA.

Automotive Restorations on Route 22 West in Lebanon, New Jersey has long experience in welding cast iron manifolds. Ask for the owner, Steve Babinsky. Don't expect fast turnaround, it's a long and slow process. 908-236-6400.
