Mission accomplished. Inspected a selection of carbs this morning.
First one was an EE-16 Rejected! BTW, anyone know what this might go to? Next up were a couple Carters. Rejected! Then a big 2 bbl Ford Carb. Rejected! Probably off a '60's Ford Galaxie owned by the Packard's owner. Next up were a couple of 1 bbl's. Rejected! Finally an EE-23. The Eureka moment!!!! Although coated with "patina" it looked solid and in examination of the fuel inlet fitting didn't find any damage. Also didn't find any stamped numbers where you indicated Bob. While there, rang the guy on whose behalf I was inspecting the carb and described its outside condition. Then passed over the phone to Peter, the guy selling it, and a deal was struck. So the carb will be winging its way north in the very near future. Believe my guy got a GREAT deal at the price negotiated.....have to wait and see when it arrives and he opens it up. Purist warning - Look away now! Apparently the carb came off the '36 1401 7 Passenger Sedan sitting in the garage. This '36 was bought many years ago with the intention to restore it, but it needed a hell of a lot of work, parts, etc to bring it back to its former glory. Because of this, the then owner bought a running, driving '35 5 Passenger Sedan to use while he was restoring the '36. Of course we know what happened.....because he was driving the '35 the '36 was partially pulled apart and restoration started but never really got going. In time the '36 became just another "shelf" in the garage. Time passed, the owner died, and the nephew, Peter, was initially looking to sell the '36 but when the first serious buyer inspected the car he changed his mind and decided to keep the car for himself. But why is Peter selling of its parts??? Because he intends to "Rat Rod" the '36. The reasoning being that he can't afford a correct restoration and, even if he could, the finished product would never be worth anywhere near his investment in it. Peter is however offering most of the mechanical, and other parts he won't use, to other Packard owners. Actually I don't blame the nephew because when I asked how was the wood in the body? He reached under the right side sill and emerged with a handful of crumbling, disintegrating timber! Note, the photo of the '36 makes it look "reasonable" but it's not! Don't believe anyone should be doing any wringing of hands over this Packard. OK - You can fire away but don't forget, I'm only the messenger. EE16 was used on the 1939/40 "120". Conflicting information on whether it was at one point original equipment on the 1941 "120".
Be cautious when disassembling, if like the EE22 the pivot screw for the accelerator pump linkage is a left-hand thread to prevent the rotational motion of the pivot arm from loosening the screw.

Dave,
Thanks for the identification on the EE-16. And the tip for the possible left-hand thread on the pivot screw for the accelerator pump linkage. I'll pass that on to the EE-23's new owner.
