Any experts out there? I'm sort of looking at this car.

bringatrailer.com/listing/1926-packard-model-326-sedan/

It looks like it has been repainted in the past and seems complete. According to the Packard Club's data, the engine number should be U49,501 to U90,463. The 89xxx number seems right, but it ends in a instead of starting in u, which seems odd. Also, the VN plate looks like a re-stamp.

Thoughts? Anyone know the car?

It's a dealership selling it - I'm assuming the original owner passed on, and the dealer is liquidating a collection.

Mostly running, but I like collecting future projects, and it's a bit of a buyers market these days! Still looking for a '37 1085 too...

Well, I was vaguely interested in the car above, but it seems like a bit of a mongrel - every picture the seller shows has a different number, and it either doesn't have or he doesn't know what a body tag is. Can't get the wheelbase either.

Hope it sells to someone who will restore it! Meanwhile, I'll get back to putting my 120 back together

Ken,
I believe, and someone correct me if I'm wrong(I often am!), that the numbers on the earlier Series Packards were often different. Although they were usually all in the general vicinity of each other. Looking at the numbers in the photos all the numbers seem in resonable proximity to each other so I wouldn't be concerned they don't exactly align.

I'm going to look at a number of Packards later this week including 5 earlier Series cars. Pretty sure they'll exhibit the same characteristics. Pic's of the Packards attached

I think what you say is true about the earlier series cars, according to the sources I have seen. Numbers differed but tended to be reasonably close. Even if it was a mixture of components, they appear to be correct. Clearly restorable. But not by me!

The plate on the car is definitely a reproduction. Whether it's the correct production number or not - who knows?

Cheers

Brian
