I'm having trouble finding a water temp sending unit that works. I have tested the wire and it is good. I have tested the dash gauge and it shows that it is good when I ground the wire. Also I replaced the dash voltage regulator and that is good. Does anyone know the spec on a replacement temp sending unit?

Several have used the Echlin TS6464 available at Napa at a current price of around $18 and have reported no issues.

Here are some resistance readings another poster measured some years ago and should be reasonably accurate for all 51-56 models. The 55-6 models do not have the same gauge markings so that reference might need a bit of interpolation.. With exception of some 53s that left the factory with a different sender the senders were essentially the same for the other years.

I have temp sending units for sale at $22.00, including shipping. They are new and work on all 1951 thru 1956 Packards. Dwight Heinmuller

I finnaly found a sending unit that worked (TS6464). After I got that working I went to test the gas gauge. I tested the wire and it was ok. I then grounded the dash gauge and it worked, so I then dropped the tank and I found out the wire at the sending unit was broken. I fixed the the wire end and then the gauge worked great. I now have the the gauges working and now can drive the car more. Thank you all for the help
