I was just curious how many of these did they build in 1939?

As I recall, the one I saw at a car show in the Seattle Center back in the ‘60s was a 1938 but was identical in appearance although it had an open chauffeur’s compartment.

I agree there is no doubt that this is a rare car, also when I saw the car for sale at LBI's tent at Hershey, Hyman ltd had the same car then they listed it as sold for $30000 less! I realized it was the same car!

I still would like to know how many they made at a price over $8000 it could not have been many.

The 1938 model is more numerous. I can't recall if that is the Bill Walker car, I'll have to check. If it is then the 1 of 2 claim came from him.

Well I did a little research on the internet (I have plenty of time on my hands now that I am retired) and found at least FIVE one unrestored needing restoration one fine original and three with older restorations!

5540 Packards, thank you for bringing this design to our attention again. While your first question geared towards 1939 (mod 1708, 17th series), the second question seemed to revolve around this design of Brunn Touring Cabriolets in general ("...made at a price over $8000"), which would include 1938. I belive, BDC is correct when saying that two of them have been built in 1939 and Tom is also right in saying that the 1938 model is more numerous. Don't know, how many in total.

The only 1939 Brunn cabriolet that I've been able to observe closely and get the #s from is VN 1708-2014 with theft-proof or cowl #414147, originally intended for 1938 production and finally completed as a 1939. This is the one that was exhibited at the Macungie PA AACA show in 2018. Note that the majority of 1939 Twelve were built with leftover 1938 bodies. If anyone is willing to share, confidentially if desired, the corresponding numbers from any other 1939 Brunn cabriolets, I'd very much like to have them,

There's nothing like hard data. Here is picture of Austin Clark's 39 which was an original car in light green as I remember. It looks much better without that ugly little badge that EC Anthony put on his sales. That picture brings back a lot of memories of hanging out with Clark - who never had a job because he won the birth lottery - and boozing at places like Buck Hill Falls PA. I gave up booze when it stopped making sense. I also didn't want to end up like Austin, but it was a good time the same way as getting smashed at Kansas City and New Orleans Jazz joints where the RJR girls handed out free packs of cigarettes. Moderation does have its dividends.
