Is there anyway to safely jump-start a 6 volt 37 Packard 115C with a 12 volt jump starter? Do any of you know if a 6 volt jump starter exists or can be purchased?

You won’t hurt the starter but be sure to disconnect the body feed so that the generator, all lights etc. are not getting 12v. That will mean that you will have to hot-wire the coil and use a remote starter switch to crank it over to start.

With prolonged use you can do damage to the starter. That said, jumping a 6-volt system from a 12 has probably been successfully done hundreds of thousands of times. To minimize that potential for damage, only keep the jumper cables connected for the shortest possible time and in any case for no longer than a half-minute or so. Attempt to start immediately after the cables are connected and disconnect immediately after it starts.

What I do is to put one jumper cable directly to the starter bypassing the solenoid turn on the key and then ground the other cable to ground-- you get a spark but that way you are only putting 12 V through the starter and not to the rest of the car.
