The bolt sizes would probably be in the Parts Book and are Grade 8 rather than the softer, lower strength type found in local hardware stores.

Hi,
I juste received the car production order from the Studebaker National Museum. Could you tell me where I can find information to decode the "description of automobile" code? Thanks!

These are all the bolt sizes used in the '56. If you have calipers or metric bolts, try to get a measurement then convert to fractional inches if you can't find the exact size somewhere. It's worth looking in the torque specs because it could be listed specifically there.packardinfo.com/xoops/html/downloads/ser ... anual5556/Sect21_Specifications.pdf
I hope it is not too hard to get American sizes in France as nothing on these cars are metric. Attach file: unknown[1].png (23.35 KB)

This might be what you are looking for.packardinfo.com/xoops/html/downloads/56th_Series_RPO_Codes.pdf There are also 3 pages of a factory bulletin with more details on the codes and what appears to maybe be contemplated options that did not get offered. Owen_Dyneto posted that info a couple of years ago but the posting appears to have been messed up with the transition to the new server. While the pages will download they won't open. Perhaps he could repost them or I can if he doesn't have them handy.

Thanks for the information.
The car still has all the option it had when is was sold back in '56: Twin Traction Safety Differential, Torsion Level Ride, Solex Glass with Shaded Plastic Windshield, White Sidewall Tires, Power Steering, Power Break, Radio (only the electric antenna is missing), Fresh Air Heater and Defroster and Push Button Transmission Shift. Regarding the "U.S." bolts, it's not so hard to find in France. Lot of non metric bolts are use on tractor. I can go to the shop with a bolt and buy exactly the same! Even if I don't know the size!

Hi.
The engine is now completely disassembled. Did you know where I can find a rebuild kit incuding gasket set, pistons, exhaust valve, rig, timing chain and oil pump? Thanks

Check these sites if not already:
kanter.com/packard/ packardparts.org/ I doubt that you will find what you need as a kit, as it seems there are more junker Packards with salvaged engines than the other way around. To me it doesn't seem that full rebuilds are terribly common, so you'll probably need to source parts individually if that is all you need. However: FULL rebuild kit is for sale for $1619:kanter.com/packard/pac-556.html#5 •8 pistons with pins and clips •piston ring set •overhaul gasket set •cam bearings •main bearings •rod bearings •valve springs •timing chain and gears set •freeze plug set •valve lifters •engine pre-lube For individual parts: Gaskets:packardparts.org/products/packard-gaskets/ Pistons $69 ea., Timing Chain $60 is here:kanter.com/packard/pac-556.html#5 Oil pump you may need to ask around to guys like Ross. Not 100% sure what you mean by "exhaust valve" or "rig".

I am not an expert here but I understand that there are a couple of different options for an Oil pump, there are modifications to the origtinal done by Ross (Speedwell garage), there is a kit to adapt an Oldsmobile pump, and there is a kit to adapt a Melling pump. Hopefully proponents of each approach will post here.
