Got one from motor city Came fast installed with no problems did have to move it a little to center filler in door opening but nice easy job and the shipping box makes nice piece of material to lay one while installing tank. Also got stainless sender from Kanter all new now as sender came with gasket and lock ring. Put 10 gallons in tank no leaks life is good no worries of leaks or dirt. I assumed Kanter would be better choice with their Packard background and experience if a problem or question comes up on sender

Hey guys, so I took the task off yesterday. The outside looks worse than the inside. The inside actually doesn't look too bad in my opinion what do you think?

I think I might just rinse it out really well and just let it be. I will wire wheel the outside, spray it with some rust inhibitor and top coat and add missing flex hose for vent.

What should I clean it out with since I don't want to recoat and when I refill should I put some oil in the gas to kinda coat the tank?

Also, that is not the right gasket for the sender right? Thanks guys.

Worth trying the tank. For an extra bit of comfort, it might be a good idea to place another fairly large filter somewhere right out of the tank before fuel can reach the fuel pump.

Here is the sender gasket I believe Riki was able to get locally. Might try a parts store and see if they have any in bulk assortments or see if they carry anything for Tbirds or mid to late 50s Fords. Since you are both in San Diego area, maybe send Riki a PM and get the name of the store.

As I recall the originals were round instead of square cut so those might be easier to find. Just make sure they are rated for use around gasoline. McMaster Carr is another option.

I am definitely planning on using a separate inline filter right outside the tank.

I messaged Riki the other day and he is only about 10 mins from me, he gave me the contact info for where he got the gasket.

Don't trust me that this is what you need, but it looks like you could get a 100 pack on McMaster for $20.

If so, then likely you could find them somewhere else at a more reasonable qty.

Buna-N won’t last with ethanol but in this case there is very little contact so should be okay. Viton is what I generally look for but even that has different grades with more or less ethanol-resistance.

for the insight. Wasn't aware that the chemical resistance type would be needed for ethanol, but it makes sense in retrospect.

Looking again you can get Viton rings for about $4 apiece. Looks like you would want P/N 1170N99.

You’re welcome and I learned that after a lot of research trying to find the drain plug gasket for my 1965 Imperial. It’s probably Viton or its equivalent used on reproduction rubber parts that indicate they are ethanol-safe

On the Imperial and as a little aside, when I first got it to my Oregon shop and went to drain the tank, I found that the seal had entirely gone with the plug itself being held on by only a portion of a turn of the threads so lucky it was still there! The seal was an odd size and has to fit into a confined area so the OD and thickness was important too but someone on eBay was selling them in any size needed and happened to have what I wanted at a very reasonable price. I had already bought a new reproduction stainless tank but probably won’t need it.
