1956 Executive removal of upper control arm bushings.

This is my first time working on a Packard. I’m just putting that out there but I have the front suspension disassembled on my 56 executive and I am trying to take the upper control arm bushings out. In the manual it says use a spreader to keep the arms equal distance away from each other which I have made a device to do so but the part I am confused on is getting the actual bushings out. It says to use a socket to get them out but it just seems very vague to me. Any help would be great!

Having worked on Packards all my life, this is something I prefer to leave to the professionals! It’s not an easy task no matter how one tries although having the special tools that the Packard shops had in the day may help.

G'day Wyatt Hanson,
to PackardInfo.

But sorry I can't offer any advice.

Instead I invite you to include your '56 Executive in the Packard Vehicle Registry.

Cut a bar to fit between forks.

This keeps them from bending.

Then you need to press them out.

You need cups...a big socket... and other accessories. To press bushing into.

And another to press it in.

I actually got them out using a upper bushing tool that was made for Gm, Ford and Chrysler I guess the radius was just right to be able to use that tool. It was fairly easy to get them out but I have a feeling pressing the new ones in is gonna be a little bit trickier.
