This car is currently listed on Facebook Marketplace in Massachusetts for $28K.
Hard to say what the value is, but I think it will have to be substantially less than the asking price. If the engine is knocking, the bearings must be bad, which will mean a total rebuild. Given the other issues this car has, including corroded chrome and a worn, tattered interior, you would need a staggering amount of money just to make it roadworthy and presentable. Too bad, because it appears to be a very solid survivor car. By comparison, there is a beautifully restored 1936 Packard Eight Sedan now for sale at a vintage car dealer in Minnesota for only about $37K (www.ellingsonmotorcars.com). And this is a dealer asking price, the car has been for sale for months and it recently had a price cut. Hard to move big four door sedans, even if they are really nice.

It might look solid, but that poor front door fit indicates subterranean problems like drywood termites.
I've seen solid original cars in poor cosmetic condition where that door fit was perfection.

If this car has any bad structural wood, then it is going to be a real disaster financially on top of the huge outlay you will need for the engine rebuild. A professional engine rebuild on a Packard like this will probably run at least $15K. Then there are other potential mechanical issues like brakes, suspension, clutch, etc. With an apparently untouched original car like this, I would also be concerned about the wiring harness; it is probably all bad. Do love original cars like this, but this one is looking pretty scary, even if you could do much of the work yourself.

Best case scenario for the door is it was caught on something and damaged.
Reworking the crankcase and crankshaft to accept modern insert rod bearings will run 10K to be done right. Never mind the block rebore and a new radiator core. Pictures like that affect me the same way as looking pictures of then and now Hollywood stars. They sure were beautiful once upon a time.

The body on this car looks really straight. But the huge issues with this car are the engine and the interior. I'm seeing fairly extensive wear, staining and moth damage inside the car. When you see a posting for a car and there are heavy quilts over the seats, you know what is being hidden underneath. Rebuilding the engine is one thing, but the cost to reupholster this car correctly will be staggering. The material alone will run into the thousands. I would just buy this 1936 Standard Eight sedan instead. If you bought the 1935 Facebook car for, say $10,000, you would have only a $27K differential over this 1936, assuming you were willing to pay the dealer's full asking price. No way you would even come close. Of course, you could buy the Facebook car and just do enough to make it roadworthy, but I still think you would end up exceeding what you could buy the 1936 for outright.
