Thanks for all the responses…. Here is what I’m thinking at this point….let me know what you all think.

1. On-Off-On switch is instrument - off - reading (or map) light. I believe the “reading/map light is located in the glove box. Is that right?
2. I’m thinking the On-Off toggle is the front dome light as it is identical in style to the rear dome light switch…remember this is 138CD limo
3. Non-illuminated potentiometer to the defroster. I think this is also a switch/potentiometer, but I need to verify.
4. Lighted switch/potentiometer to the heater

Unfortunately, tracing wires is of little value since it was previously messed with.

The map light is the little chrome piece in the middle top of dash panel.

Okay…I believe I have it all figured out.

None of the heater/defroster, cigar lighter, or dome lights show up on any wiring diagrams that I can find.

But, I did find a light 1937 light switch diagram that labeled the cigar lighter and dome lights, so I was able to confirm those.

As for the heater and defroster, I think it makes sense that they connect in after the ignition switch.

Here are some simplified diagrams. The diagram for the light switch is one that really helps visualize each switch position.

Here is a drawing Packard provided for the heater/defroster install in 1600 and 1700 models. It is from the Oct 1, 38 service letter and might be similar enough to provide inspiration on yours.

As we all know, Packard was a bit less than thorough with providing fuses for many items. Even though they do not show a fuse, unless your switches are some of the few with built in fuses, I think it would be a good idea to provide an inline fuse in the line coming from the ign switch. The wire is connected to the GA terminal on the ign switch and 20 amp is what was used for the built in postwar heaters.

The 1938/39 diagrams show the dome light circuit, which should be similar. Also, the '37 Super Eight/Twelve diagrams also show that circuit.

Thanks, Kevin.

The heater/defroster diagram is helpful. I agree that adding a fuse is a good idea.

For the dome light and cigar lighter, here is the switch diagram I found that confirms my diagram.

I have a 138CD limousine. With that, I have two dome lights. One in the front before the divider and one in the passenger area.

In the front, the switch is under the dash. In the rear , the switch is on the pillar just above the cigar lighter/ash tray assembly.

My car has a working horn button for the first time in at least 63 years! This is because the car didn’t have horns at all when my dad bought it in 1960.

The horns are some that I found and reburbished. The horns are correct, but the trumpets are not. I’m happy with them, though.

It was pretty exciting to push the horn button and hear the horns blare!
