Put in some zddp.

This just makes me happy., When my dad got the car running in 2004, my daughter was 6 years old. I never imagined this happening. Just about put me tears….

Tomorrow I will be hauling my car to Wichita to Allen Rich. He’ll be doing a lot of mechanical work that I don’t have the space or tools to do. Thanks to Don Koller for getting me in contact with Allen.

One benefit is that I’ll be able to put my daily driver back in the garage over the winter.

NOTE: the photos are before the tie-down straps were in place.

While my car is off to Wichita being worked on by others, I thought I’d post a couple photos of another Packard. This is one my dad built for me back in 1994…all from scratch, including the metal work. The metal work is all polished aluminum and are parts my dad machined. The wood is walnut except for the wheels which are pine, hence the lighter “whitewall” shade. This measures about 15 inches bumper to bumper.

Fun Fact - Dad always refused to sign any of his project pieces…and there are many. A compromise was to add a license plate. In this case the plate number is WMB - 6 with a date of Dec 1994. The -6 means that is was the sixth project he did. He’s up to about 30 something now.

Wow, that is some nice woodworking. Same with the metal. Very cool and very unique!

Yeah, he’s VERY meticulous. The precision of what he does is amazing. At the same time he made this one for me, he also made a Jaguar for my brother.

This is just a fun bit of history for my car. My dad bought the car early November, 1960 when he was 19 for $400. My wife is very involved with genealogy and did a little research using some of her resources to find some information on the Packard. Kathy found the Kansas City Star ad in their archives that my dad had responded to when buying the car.

Another nice piece of history of my car. My dad still had the receipt from when he bought the car. At that time in Missouri, he legally couldn't buy the car on his own since he wasn't 21 yet. That's why the receipt list my grandfather (Melvin) as the purchaser with the statement that the car will be titled to my dad (William). It was, in fact, Dad who paid the $400 purchase price and the car was titled to him.






Then, I also have the receipts for his Kansas City licensing of the car for 1963, 1964, and, 1965. The latter was the last time Dad licensed the car as he stopped driving it in 1965.

Tomorrow I head to Wichita to bring my car home on Thursday.

New spindle assembly on drivers side
New tie rod ends
New upper rebound bumpers
New torque arm bushings
New outer/upper bushing (drivers side)
Rebuilt steering gear box
Serviced transmission
Rebuilt fuel pump
Rebuilt vacuum advance
New front motor mount
New snubber (was missing)
New clutch linkage
New lever boot
Rebuilt (revulcanized) rear motor mounts
Adjusted valves
New valve cover gaskets
New fuel pump heat shield
All new fuel line - routed correctly.
Corrected minor issue with one wheel bearing
Coolant system flushed
Inspected my brake work (happy to say my work passed inspection!!)

I know Allen has taken a lot of pictures as he was working on it, so I’ll post some of those when I get back home.
