The carpet DOES go under the sill, somewhat, on my 55 400 which surely has original carpet. For those saying that it should not I would appreciate you posting what evidence you have of that. Or maybe this is what you mean by "doesn't go under the sill".

Self explanatory in these photos. Ignore the carpet sample...

Started my carpet today. I went a little further under the back seat and cut slits for the tabs that hold the back seat in place. This should help keep the carpet in just the right position.

It would be much easier to tuck the carpet under the sill plates, but binding the edges and resting them next to the sill
plates is what Packard did, so that's what I'm going to do. I'll attach Velcro to the edges to keep them in place.

Cut up the originals to patterns for the new.

My brother sometimes accuses me of being to meticulous. I don't know what he's talking about!

I may even get to drive my car this summer!

Carpet fits nicely right now and I have a couple of upgrades to ensure it stays where it's supposed to.

Interior getting better all the time!

I made a temp cover for the rear seat so it is usable for the summer. I've been pretty pleased with how the seats feel after rebuilding them, I think they are close to how they would have felt originally, which was the goal.

Kick panels were a bit too scruffy to leave original so I covered them with the same vinyl I used for the armrests and sewed new binding on the edge.

Are these floor mats replicas of ones that Packard had made, or just something created by whoever made them? The LED lights are not original looking, but I like the way they look, and they can easily be changed back.

The interior smell is good too, which was a concern of mine. Not the smell of decaying carpet and underlay, but not the smell of new materials either. The natural materials in the seats, along with the original headliner and it's padding, provide just the right vintage car smell.

I believe the mats were a project by one of the Packard clubs or regions. If Packard had their own, they would likely be plainer or at least wouldn’t have the bright colors.

The Southern Calif Region of Packards International produced these. They were never an official Packard offering.

They have not been offered for over 10 years.

I have a set in blue in my 54. I bought them about 18 years ago from P.I. when I lived in Calif.

I agree, while I think it's nice to have Packard floor mats, they are a bit "loud" for my car.

Here is a (bad) picture of the original floor mats. Though these say "Made In Israel" so I would suppose they are replicas.
