Packard electric was originally part of Packard car company but was sold off to General Motors sometime in the 1930,s ,maybe to get more operating capital? Just for info about the electric part, for those who didn't know.

A strange thing happened today...I had the caribbean washed at a local Hand wash place that has done good work on my daily driver. I told them not to wash the top to minimze water getting into the interior. They did a good job on the wash, but when I picked up the car, the drivers window would not go down! Somebody rolled it up hard or fast enough that the stop jumped past the stop on the door. Strange, but quick to fix.
Someday I will take off the door cards and Service everything inside the doors....

I got a few bumper bolts from Joel (Packards1) and changed out some scratched bolts. Taking care of small Details....
I now also have a good used set of door handles to swap in. Can I do that with the door cards in? Just pull out that flat spring metal clip right?

That's right, no need to pull off the door card but keep track of which retainer goes where as each is different. That is, of course, presuming that they come out and are not stuck!

If the retainers have not been out in a long time there is every chance they have rusted. BE VERY CAREFUL pulling them out because if you follow the SM instructions on moving the weatherstrip and using a screwdriver under the pull out point, if the retainers have rusted the end of the retainer will most likely break off. If that happens about the only way to remove is going inside and removing the stop to drop the window down farther then using a long screwdriver to try and get the blade in the slot to hit the retainer from the front and drive it out.

The handles may go in without pulling the inner panel but be prepared. The long tang has to insert in a slot so turning the cylinder can work the lock mechanism. Be sure to have the cylinder in the new handle positioned the same as the old handle and also compare the position of the collar on the tang to make it the same as on the old one. The tang should be steady enough on its own to get in the slot but sometimes it flops around and needs guidance from inside the door. 55-6 have a slot under the weatherstrip where you can reach the collar setscrew if it needs fine tuning but I don't remember if the earlier cars have that access.

I drove about 90 miles today in a Rally through some scenic parts of the countryside here. Carla Caribbean performed wonderfully with one strange happening.....towards the end of the Rally at low speeds ~10 to 15mph while turning, the steering wheel would suddenly start vibrating at a high frequency like the horn Button itself was a buzzer. Not sure if some Vibrations were coming up through the shifter mechanism, or the power steering was doing something funny. Anybodey ever have this happen?
The kids were only along for 1/2 hour, which was enough for them. That awesome SL had a little trouble with the heat today, but not the cool 😎 packard.

I got two of these boots for the overdrive solenoids on the Caribbean and the Clipper. Just checking.....they are supposed to be on packards right?
I don't recall anybody here installing them.

They are for the governor and I've never seen one installed either but Steele offers them so they must have been there. I have one that was on a spare governor but was unable to get the governor threaded in with it there so I took it off. It was no loos because it wasn't in great condition anyway.

I started doing a few things on my doors. New fuzzies, doorhandle clips in properly, clean, lube etc...One question: is the door lock Button on the inside of the hardtop and convertible doors supposed to be like this with a big washer on it? Mine works, but the action pushing up and down the door looks is kind of rickety as it is. Am I missing something?

I have a 55 but I have never seen that. Especially the excess length of the screw points that that is unlikely to be factory.

Where do you get the new "fuzzies" at?
