G'day JRAY30,
to PackardInfo. Unfortunately, I can't help with your request, but wish you good luck in your quest. I do however invite you to include your '30 Custom Eight Packard in PackardInfo's Packard Vehicle Registry.

When you find the cowl vent parts make sure they fit your model 740, the cowl vents and levers are different between the closed and open cars, at least that is the case with the 1929 models and very likely the 7th Series.

Thank you for that advice, DavidM. The only part of the cowl vent mechanism that is present on my car is the door. I suspect the handle broke (as they were prone to do) and the owner deleted the dangling parts. I have seen the 7th series sedans in photographs with the handle present. It appears to have about a 90° bend that comes out from under the dash almost parallel to the floor when the vent is closed. So, it tucked up out of the way nicely when closed and is convenient to the driver’s right hand when it needs to be opened. One wouldn’t have to reach up under the dash to find it. My original owner’s manual shows an open car. But, it appears to be a similar arrangement. Some photographs of an intact 7th series closed car mechanism would be helpful! There should be a part number on the handle as well. Perhaps a forum member could help with that? I just don’t have a lot to go on. I hope everyone has a good weekend!
