I installed a 6V LED strip at the top inside of my rear window, which helps out greatly.

My 53 clipper was converted to 12V negative ground (before I got it), but still uses a generator and external regulator, so besides the battery and ballast resistor for the distributor it looks period correct. That's kind of a half step towards modernization others might consider. The voltage regulator/generator has been pretty reliable...ok, perhaps less reliable than a modern alternator, but acceptable for a hobby car.
I like having 12v for a radio, nav system, and cell charger when needed.
Cheers, Mike.

We experimented with LEDs in Packard taillights 1935-56 and found they were inferior to incandescent. While the incandescent lit up the entire 56 taillight lenses the LEDs were nearly just a point source. The orig reflectors were designed to light it all up and they do a good job.

That's why we do not offer them

I've seen LEDs and am not impressed. 55-56 taillight lenses are a thing of beauty at night when lit by incandescents. Sometimes the old ways OR supplies are better than the new.
