Webmaster BigKev See User information Another option is to drill out the old rivets, and tap the holes to accept a couple of small machine screws.

Although I have some somewhere, I’ve not been able to locate them or to find any photos online but there is a type of screw-like device with a plain round rivet-like head that can be tapped in to do the job. They have a very high spiral on them and work very well in soft material like aluminum, pot metal and even plastic.

Thanks to all. Especially the pics from Kevin, looks just like the clips I made. So now I have a couple options on the attachment of clip to bezel. I will let all know how and what I did. I do appreciate the help.

Twist rivet AKA screw nail. We use these at work to attach serial plates to housings but I wouldn't use them here since they could blow out the bosses. Better to tap for a machine screw.

Edit: then coincidentally I go and watch this video that demonstrates a typical use of these! Start at 17:00.

Ah, TechMoan, my favorite quasi-technical site! I love his videos but unfortunately after a recent OS upgrade, I have no audio, or rather it's garbled, so i can't enjoy videos on the PC.

As long as the hole is drilled to just larger than the diameter of the shaft these should work well on potmetal. If smaller than that, then definitely damage would occur.

Appreciate all the thoughts on bezel clips, here was my solution. A bit of a mix of all of the above. Ground the head of a small screw to fit size to size of hole in boss, with some tapping. Packed the hole with JB weld and put screw int and tapped until bottom. Leaned up the ooze and placed washer over hole. Ground remnants of old clip attachment to be level with washer. Cut screw off and installed nut. So we will see.

Looks like it will work just fine John. The JB Weld I used has held up great, even carefully taking the bezel on and off a few times. But yours is certainly more secure with the screw you added.

So the bezels went on and seem fine, glad to get more miscellaneous parts picked up.

I did order and now have received and installed diamondback Auburns, deluxe, with pie crust. They seem to be substantial tires. Started with no tubes but spokes leak so at the moment I have tubes in them. The radials may not play well with tubes at which point I will have to solve leaking issue. Thoughts?

Soon to drive this thing but first to complete vacuum system and carb issues.

I recall seeing tubes designed for radials but don't recall where or how they are different. However, there is also a rubber strip - like a big rubber band - that can be placed on the wheel over the spokes which might be better solution. Maybe Diamond Back has them or perhaps they can refer you!

The rubber mat/band is what I was thinking of. Bike tires are the same way.

I had similar thoughts but didn’t know if others had this issue and the solution. I have Coker’s on the 48 and I can’t recall why, but the guy who mounted them for me put tubes in. They didn’t agree with each other so I removed them and no problems. So I may be hunting for a solution when I get there. BTW, car now pushes much easier. I can now do it myself in and out of the garage….oh boy. Nothing like little victories
