Some later overdrive-equipped cars had 12 volt equipment. 1956-onward Fords did. I'm not certain that the 12 volt solenoids will fit the earlier OD units, but they look very similar and I think they'd fit. The governor switch will work with 6 or 12 volts. The relay would need to be twelve volt. The kick down switch should be fine with 6 or 12 volts. Overdrive was an option on Ford pickups up to around 1970 or later. Chevrolet also offered overdrive in the 1950s/60s.

There is nothing in the overdrive system where polarity would matter but you’ll probably want to source a 12v solenoid.

I added my info to the Registry. Where do I find interior and paint code info? My data plate has been sanded and only reveals stamped info such as VIN. The only other info is: I0I3 39
