Good idea Howard. My concern is that I don't think I can really access behind that. I'll have to take a closer look.

I actually have a whole spare 400 door 😅 but I REALLY don't want to have to get it painted to match 😬

The good thing about a riv-nut is that it's perfect for a blind hole as access to the backside is not required.

Right, it would help if I didn't think of a simple threaded insert when that suggestion was made...

Here is a riv nut for anyone curious.

On Bolt Depot i noticed tonight while I was order some slotted screws that are not available locally, they carry low profile riv-nuts that sit very flat on the outside surface. They have a thinner outter ledge.

I could use one of those on the rear tailpipe hanger of my 1951 Henney-Packard that seems to have stripped threads and no backside access. I had forgotten all about their existence!

The vinyl dash on my 400 is rock hard, but not cracked. Will Gummi Pflege soften that up?

I also have vinyl conditioner, but it doesn't seem to do much in most cases.

I know the foam is another issue, but it would be nice to reuse the vinyl.

I have the same question. Mine is in good shape but hard as a rock. I'd love to soften it up.

Ok, I don't even know why I asked since I have both Gummi Pflege and a spare vinyl dash. I'll just try it this evening. 😂

I doubt that Gummi Pflege would work well on leather as its chemical makeup is for rubber. I may even discolor or somehow damage leather over time eve if it seems to help now. I would use something that is specific to leather.

From left to right we have Mothers VLR, Gummi Pflege, and Megiars Leather Conditioner. As expected the leather conditioner did nothing. The VLR section perhaps is worse? The GP section is better. So I will clean with Meguiars Leather Cleaner (which I already know works well on vinyl) and treat the entire piece with GP.
