Another Packard hoard found in Minnesota

Saw these ads on Facebook this morning but thought I would post as a separate item. An individual in Minnesota is selling several 1955 and 1956 Packards, including at least three Caribbeans. There are two separate ads being run, so I'm not sure on exactly what he has but apparently it is one 1955 Caribbean, one 1956 Caribbean convertible and one 1956 Caribbean hardtop plus ten or so parts cars, both 400s and some Clippers. The Caribbeans are all project cars and would need total restorations. The '55 has its windshield knocked out. Ad indicates that some of them have not been on the road in over 50 years. Asking $15K:

First Ad:

facebook.com/marketplace/item/2592928394381732

Second ad is for the 1956 Caribbean and is on a restricted group site on Facebook called Packard Automobile Parts Buy and Sell. I could not find this ad on FB Marketplace but it is the same individual who listed the above '55. I downloaded the photos and reposted them here as only members of the Facebook group may directly access the ad. Seller is asking $21K for the '56. Text of ad:

Very nice complete project ran when parked in 1967 everything is there that I can see I have cushions for the seats that have been stored inside this card was parked in a barn in 1967 and was removed last fall I have a title for this car there is less than 300 that were produced I have some Nos parts I have other Caribbeans also these are located in Mora Minnesota I believe the engine is stuck from sitting I have put no effort into trying to get it running I have a Caribbean 2-door hardtop and a 55 convert also I have some other Packard parts cars and extra hoods and seats

Yeah right $21k for that give me a *#*@^(@* break!

"Ran when parked" 58 years ago has to be some sort of record. Not to mention the insane amount of rust/corrosion from indoor storage, that place must have like 100% humidity.

Meanwhile I just saw a running and driving, perfectly nice (though far from perfect) 55 Caribbean sell for $25k.

That will be a nice project car, but that pricing needs to deorbit from Jupiter first.

Couldn't agree more and with the Oakland, CA PAC sticker on the windshield and the fact rust has taken over even painted underhood items and appears to have spread to a chromed valve cover, wonder how many of those sitting years was in a salt or ocean environment and what the parts of the car not seen underneath might look like.

Well, I don't price them, I just repost them. Right now, on this hoard, I'm thinking $15K for all three Caribbeans. And that might be generous. These cars do look pretty bad. The surface rust looks pretty scary. Interiors totally trashed and chrome all oxidized and will have to be replated. Restoration costs would be staggering. Mechanically, bet on complete drivetrain rebuilds. Everything is seized up and moisture probably got into the engines after so many years of obviously poor storage. But at least they were kept inside. Wonder if any of these cars are on the PAC roster for '55-'56 Caribbeans as I see a PAC club sticker on the windshield of the '56 convert.

Love the statement "ran when parked in 1967". In 1967, I was eleven years old. The Beatles released their "Magical Mystery Tour" album that year. It was literally in the last century.

It so was the last century and Packards were just mostly unwanted used cars!

I had you beat by another 11 years. In 1967 I was stationed at the Naval Hospital in Oakland WITHOUT a Packard -- or any car for that matter -- while taking care of Navy and Marine guys who had managed to mostly return in one piece from their government sponsored all expense paid trips to VietNam. Was not so anxiously awaiting my turn which happened late the following year with orders to the comparatively luxurious Naval Hospital, Danang. Amazing what you can do with canvas barracks and quonset huts. Don't even remember who the popular draws of the day were but surely the Beatles were near the top. Since the hippy movement was alive and well across the bay in San Francisco, undoubtedly there were a few of the great unwashed bands and folk singers who were managing to pull in crowds while getting their start.

HH56. Thank you for your service during the Vietnam War. You guys had to serve under very difficult circumstances and definitely did not receive the appreciation you all deserved. Years ago, I had a friend at work named Andy who served a combat tour of duty in 'Nam with the 101st Airborne Division in 1969-1970. He was awarded the Bronze Star with a V for meritorious conduct during an assault on a VC supply depot. Sadly, he was exposed to Agent Orange during his tour of duty and ended up dying from cancer at age 44. It happened to more than a few guys who served over there. Remember Andy telling me what it was like to get sprayed with that stuff. It stunk and stuck to everything.

There was a lot of great music on the airwaves in 1967. Lots of great groups; the Mamas and the Papas, the Byrds, Rolling Stones, Jefferson Airplane and many others. Long time ago.

Thanks for the sentiment and yes, it was fun times then. Except for the climate probably not a lot different from the experiences the younger guys had in Desert Storm and Afghanistan.

Being Navy and medical, by being stationed at a major hospital on the outskirts of Danang I know I had it far better than many who went over. By pure luck I was not out in the bush with the Marines getting used for target practice. About all the hospital looked forward to was the almost nightly light show with flares and the occasional tracer bullets fired from the special forces base down the road. The most excitement we had was from a rocket the VC fired at the helicopter base across from us which fell short and landed in one of our operating rooms. Fortunately it did not go off and the room was not in use at the time but it did serve as a "what if" call.

I do remember some of those groups and bands now that you mentioned their names. I wonder if that Packard convertible was still in the Oakland area playing their tunes on the radio at the time or if it had already started its sit to oblivion.

The guy is obviously out of touch, but hey, he put his location and asking price in his ad, and isn't jerking people around for 6 months. PB
