I got my wisdom teeth out this morning, so nothing better to do than putz around the website. I actually made a video for installing the valve springs/keepers last year. Please pardon the lousy commentary:

Taking them out is just the inverse. In addition to plugging the oil holes, use a telescoping magnet to pull the keepers once you have the spring compressed. Once the keepers are out, loosen the tool, pull the valve out and remove the spring hardware.

To reinstall the keepers, I think most everyone uses grease to stick the keeper to the grooves in the valve. I do, however, want to recommend this nifty valve keeper install tool - makes reinstalling the valves an absolute breeze (and keeps your fingers out of the gallery while you're reinstalling):ebay.us/m/lGKONM

Exactly. You need to lift up the spring in order to remove the retainers which are visible in your photo. On the C-type, one side goes under where your photo shows and the other goes on top of the valve so that the spring can be compressed upward.

Joe - nice recommendation on the valve keeper tool. I will definitely be picking one of those up. My fingers are my livelihood and I can't risk them getting crushed by the spring compressor slipping.

Ok I got it figured out how it all goes together and how tool should work.. appreciate all the help.. hope to get them out tomorrow and see what I’m dealing with.. tks!
