What's a beauty bar? Whatever it is, it doesn't sound Packard-esque to me.

Raised bar of white running along the outside edge of the whitewall. My dad's '38 has them and it looks good on that body style. Not sure about later cars though.

Edit - Here's a picture of the beauty bar

Mid Atlantic Packard sells Diamondbacks for less than direct. Or they use to have gotten three sets thru them

Great info! I'll reach out and see if they still do it.

I run the diamond backs on the patrician, with the P235 sizing. They are rated a little higher than the P225/P215. I also put the same ones on the Caribbean. I believe they will do very well, didn't get a chance to really work them since I found a list of other issues that kept the test drive short.

I will agree, getting the P235 off the rear are a real pain. I have found if you raise the rear of the car by the rear axle, and support the car on jack stands on the frame rails in front of the axle you can lower the rear axle a little more. I still need to deflate the tires but it allows you to get the tires off without scuffing the white walls.

I see! I've never heard that term before but now that I see a photo, I've seen that type of tire. I believe my 1952 Henney-Packard had Denman with the ring.

As for getting rear tires off, the only one I ever had difficulty with were on my former 1953 Patrician. The L78s on it could be removed and it wasn't really difficult but it took a knack. I can't tell for sure in looking though its photos but the 1953 may have had the rings in question which looked fine on it. I never thought of them as a thing to wonder about before!

I also have a set of nice wire wheels with 8.20 X 15 tires one of which I test-fitted on my 1954 Patrician a while back to see how they looked and it was a bit difficult both on and off. (Incidentally, the wire wheels do not look particularly good on a sedan!)

I have the car on a lift when I remove the tires, so the rear axle is hanging all the way down. It's still really hard to get the tires off the rear. The L78-15's I have on there now seem to be like 9" or so on the section width, which is almost an inch wider than the 8.20's. 235's are somewhere between the two.

The other problem I noticed is that the new rear shocks I put on (Dwight's recommendation) have a shorter extension than the heavy duty shocks I took off. So the axle doesn't hang quite as much. One thought I had was to disconnect the lower shock bolts and let the rear axle hang down lower....supported of course. Put the tires on and then reconnect the shock bolts.

Yea I’m running those shocks on the patrician. It rides quite nice. Not to sure what’s on the Caribbean though. But if it’s on a lift than it shouldn’t be an issue to deflate the tires for removal. It sucks, but personally I’d rather do that than mess with the shocks. If I came to a roadside issue (flat tire) I typically carry the Milwaukee M12 tire inflator with me since it uses the same batteries as my impact wrench. And I have filled multiple tires up using the xc4.0 battery
