1946 CLIPPER PASSENGER DOOR NEEDED

Looking for a front passenger side door for my 46 Clipper.

I had a major brain malfunction and distraction and ripped a 3 by 14 inch hole in to the door. Sort of looks like Greased Lightning after the big race. Not very happy about it.

We could fix the door but there will be some time required to make it right on top of trying to get the paint match. Hanging a new door is a viable alternative. The car is very straight and I want it to look right. Body guys who have looked at he door have given me two ways to go...fix or replace.

Let me know what you have. I am located in Pittsburgh.

Thank you
Chris

You might be able to get something from one of these two Facebook Market place postings

1947 Packard in NY

Or

1941 Packard in OH

Looking at the parts listing the exterior door panel should be the same

This is definitely a fix, in my opinion. Why would you replace a perfectly fine OEM (I assume) door, with another one, over a minor damage like this? Doors from different cars do not necessarily fit well, and it will be non-original to this vehicle, etc.
Heck, you can even remove the paint transfer marks, and leave the hole as is (assuming you do not drive in the rain/elements). It kind of looks cool, as opposed to your regular body damage

I agree with JWD, repair the existing door. Most body shops, and mechanics, don't know anything different than remove and replace, repairing is becoming a lost art. Someone that knows what they're doing will have no problem fixing your door, especially if you don't mind a small amount of filler. It can be done with no filler, just have to have the right person, and be ready for a bit more expensive repair.

I don't agree with JWD when it comes to leaving the hole! I would want to repair it, pretend it never happened, and keep away from whatever yellow monster bit your car!

I would also recommend keeping the door on the car, for the entire repair process. Just removing the interior door panel should give plenty of access...

The hole, sort of, looks like an old-school large caliber projectile impact... Regular body damage usually looks sloppy, while some interesting impact marks (like an elephant foot print, etc.) could potentially compliment the car's original history. I could definitely see this one as a nice conversation piece How often do you see a hole in the door like that? While the rest of the car looks presentable, you can actually get away with it, by cleaning the yellow paint off and protecting the metal around the impact so that it does not rust.
