I've got a '53 Clipper sedan that I'm trying to find some carpet for. I found a website that offers exact fit but I'm looking more for a custom "ratty" look. I was thinking about chindi rugs or even astro turf. Also trying to find a cost effective way to dampen the noise. Has anyone made any custom carpet? I need some pictures of different interiors with more than just stock carpet. Trying to make everything unique.

I make custom carpet but I try to replicate the actual look.

The original flooring on those was just rubber. (Might be off by a year or few as I forget the year range when the cheapest ones had no carpet.)

Sure you don't want 80/20 loop in there? Pick a sharp color to complement something. Astroturf sounds awful to try to install—it won't easily bend.

I believe that my all-original 1953 Clipper Deluxe had carpet but it's been a long time so maybe I'm forgetting. I know that my Henney-Packards all had the rubber even though those cars cost upward of $8,000 when new. The rubber is nearly impossible to find so maybe Pgh Ultramatic could find a way of reproducing those too!

Lots of different brands of sound deadener, I used Siless. You can get it on Amazon. It's a good project when you need to do something that doesn't require much thinking.





A nice layer of underlay also helps with noise and also helps your carpet fit better. I put panel board under the underlay to keep it nice and even.





I used a low cut pile when I made my carpet set, but I was not going for custom, I wanted it to look factory.

Look at my 54 Project Blog. My carpet, indoor/outdoor carpet. Very similar to original, very durable, and super cheap. $60 will do an entire car, and probably the trunk as well.
