You can get your battery tested to make sure that's not the problem. If your starter is the issue, it might be best to get yours rebuilt. Another potential issue may be your battery cables, undersized or old/corroded.
Having said that, if you've been tapping your starter to get it started, that's probably the issue and probably needs to be rebuilt.

I've found 1 online so far for not cheap. Where Packards are concerned, cheap isn't part of the vocabulary. Anyway, once you do get it running, be sure it's charging and that the battery is able to actually hold the charge. Also, be sure your hot (negative) wire is at least 0 AWG with 00 AWG preferred.

This is my favourite YouTube video on 6 volt systems. You issue may be your starter, but may not be your only issue. Keep us posted!

I'll echo what others have said. Start with the simple things first, because you you may not need to replace the starter. Charge the battery and try to start again. 60% is dead. Have it tested if it struggles. Auto parts places will check it for free. Batteries don't last forever.
Cables from the battery really should be 00 gauge to carry the amperage if you are running 6 volt. Connections on all ends need to be clean. I got my cables from batterycablesusa.com and they are excellent. Starter may need to be rebuilt, new brushes, etc. There are plenty of places that can do that for you. Or you can take it off and clean it up yourself and replace the brushes. That will likely get it working satisfactorily. The worst part about rebuilding the starter is taking it off and putting it back on. Seriously, that is a pain in the butt. Especially if your start has the huge solenoid on top like mine does.

Hi not a mechanic here but had a problem with my 51 300 where I thought it was the starter, turned out to be the starter solenoid not the starter itself just thought I share a experience with you.
