That truck looks like the clear deal. To get it on a lift at the shop, I guess they'll have to take the shaft loose. How do you secure the shaft when it's taken loose?

A piece of wire or rope can be used to hold the shaft up to somewhere on the frame.

Be aware that if it has power steering and they try to tow it with the front wheels on the ground, it might be uncontrollable. I towed one that way and had to leave the engine running the whole way as otherwise the steering, without hydraulic pressure, is all over the place and tying the wheel doesn't help.

It has power steering, Thanks for the heads up. I just had it gently pushed a few feet back in the garage until I can find a shop. After several references, no one would take it. The "guy who used to work on old cars retired" was the usual answer. Looking again at the shop manual, as noted before, it has a whole section on "stuck in reverse" trouble shooting, and it's mostly all about the overdrive, and the OD solenoids.

The second thing could be a stuck clutch (I tend to lean toward this explanation.)

The third thing is linkage, which can be under the hood, as discussed earlier, or at the transmission.

That's all I can think of for now.

It really doesn’t require someone who works on old cars as clutch technology hasn’t changed much in an over a hundred years other than that modern ones tend to be hydraulically actuated. The clutch itself is the more or less same. The only caveat is that before sliding the transmission back, they need to reach up inside to release a little throw bearing out return spring. That done, they can probably fix it without completely removing the transmission but it will probably have to be loosened and slid back a little.

Again avoidable simply by using a 4-post lift not a drive-on lift. Most shops have dollies to roll it around on or perhaps it could be rolled in on the truck if the lift is wide enough to clear the tow truck dollies.
