Yes, I know a guy. However it's about $100 per wheel ($400 per car).

I think the standard replacements are about half that but people have problems with them sometimes.

Let me know if you're interested in the high quality stuff.

I have a set of Kanter and a set of NAPA shoes on my '54. The NAPA shoes are much rougher, and probably harder. I wonder if that's a problem with wear on the drum over time. The '54 Panama brake drums are hard to find because they are unique to the Clipper Supers, and there weren't many of those made compared to other Clippers.

I am based out of Panama (yes same name as the car... there is a story ;)
So its really cost prohibitive to be sending out shoes for resurfacing.
Do you guys know the correct NAPA part numbers? We don't have one here, so I would need to buy online and ship.

I could probably scrounge up a set of 12” shoes so you wouldn’t have to send yours here. The question is mainly on cost.

Did you add your car to the register? 😃

You have the standard 1 3/4" shoes, 12" diameter used at least '48-54. I would suggest that you check on ebay for some new linings that you can rivet on. Better still, my experience in less industrialized countries is that there is probably someone in the next town who would be happy to make and rivet on a set of linings for you.

Beautiful Panama. Love the red/black combo and the wire wheels.

Ross' advice is what I was thinking too. I'm sure there are a ton of places in Panama that will reline the brake shoes for you. I went back through my records and I couldn't find the part numbers for the NAPA shoes I bought. The only thing I found was a picture of the shoe and it had the number YR-5D1, which doesn't seem to mean anything.

I agree, find someone local to reline your brake shoes. When we lived in Ecuador our mechanic was very creative and could repair almost anything. Having said that, there were times that he may have been a little more creative than he should have been! LOL

I would never trust purchased shoes for the very reason of having possibly hard lining. I always specify the softest lining available as the shoes are easy to replace once they wear out but the drums are not. Also, the softer linings stop better.

The long URL posted means that now, at lease only my iPad, I have to scroll side to side to read the posts so PLEASE use the Link icon rather than posting the URL directly! It’s the one that looks like a little link of chain.
