Hi

Just getting the 1937 Super 8 back together. I put 4 quarts of oil in it and when I dipped the oil, it was reading over full!!!??? Was confused, so removed the dip stick from the 1938 Super 8 and the stick was shorter!

Can anyone throw some light onto how long the dip stick should be in the 1937 and 1938 Super 8’s?

Please see picture.

Thanks Colin

Not sure this helps, but this is from a post-war service letter.

Perhaps it will help ID the dipstick you have.

Looking at the parts book here on the website, they do list different dipsticks for different models/series:

Note that 37 and 38 Super 8 take the same dipstick, so indeed there is a mystery to solved here...

Am I missing something simple here? Have you considered draining the crankcase, refilling with the prescribed amount of oil, and seeing which (if either) dipstick shows "FULL"?
