Source of photo and any details, John? You made no comments but I think it's NYC taxi.

You don't want to miss this, The Atomic Packard restoration thread.
packardinfo.com/xoops/html/modules/newbb ... flat&order=ASC&type=&mode=0&start=0 Not exactly what you are looking for, but a taxi stretch done on a stock Packard sedan during WW2 by the Fitzjohn bus company. Notice the wood and masonite bodywork. It's wild, man.

The NYC taxicabs of that time were required to carry 5 passenger in the rear compartment.

A nice 1941 taxi.

Very nice--love the rates. Photo looks old but can't help but wonder if the car is a restored version or if Packard ID all over was standard on taxis--or something to impress the clientele they were being transported in style. I see it is on the postwar above also but don't remember it on other photos.
EDIT Just noticed the rates are the same too and can't believe they would have stayed the same postwar--very little else did according to most stories I've read.

What if they were factory publicity or advertising pictures? That would explain why they had Packard name and logo where the taxi company's name and logo would usually be found. Also the unchanged rates as they were only a mockup anyway.
The 1941 appears to be a "blackout" model with painted fender lights and side trim.

Sounds logical. Hadn't thought of the publicity aspect. Still love the rates though--fake or not.

If you look at this Packard Factory taken photo, you will see the cab is marked the same way. I am pretty sure the above photo was a factory shot.
