Lookin' good! Too bad about the Pontiac motor though.

To the uninitiated on this website, this comment is a "friendly" sarcastic jab by Eric aimed at me. I was a Pontiac high performance expert back in the 1970s (http://www.OriginalHO.com).

I invited Eric to attend the GTO National Meet in Witchita back in July and he had a great time seeing all those magnificent GTOs. Eric knows perfectly well what a great engine the Pontiac V-8 is, despite the fact that it is now an orphan like the Packard. As opposed to Packard, there are 4 different cast aluminum high performance heads available in the aftermarket including a canted-valve one. There are two different aluminum high deck blocks. There are as many alumininum HiPo intakes and exhausts as one can shake a wallet at.

Too bad Packard high performance never had a chance to really develop in this direction.

Eric, I'm sort of a run what you brung kind of guy. In this case it was use what you got. At least the engine and body are both orphans and their names begin with "P". Maybe I have created a new hybrid orphan THE PACKTIAC. All it needs now is a big ole turbo.

Actually, I just hate to see any other engine than a Packard engine in a Packard.

As a bathtub owner, I can't stand the look of customized bathtubs, period.

But DAMN if that isn't a FINE looking car that is way sexier than a chopped merc anyday...nice job!

What's the driveline you ended up with?

nice, but something about the grille is putting me off a bit. not sure if it is the fact that it is painted or if it is because the front bumper doesn't follow the lower body line. not sure.

i like the big ass tires in the back though ;0) sweet!!

Thanks for the positive replys. The front bumper and grille are not finished yet. I plan to install a complete 22nd series bumper painted yellow. The drive train is Pontiac with a 9 inch narrowed ford rear end with Centerline wheels 19.50x31x15 inch tires.
Front sub frame is 71 Firebird with 455 SD engine slightly modified. I used the Firebird instrument cluster and seats on the interior. I hope to get the interior done this winter.
I too am a lover of the bathtub Packards but this project got way out of control. The car was pulled from a flooded creek bed minus engine, transmission, bumpers, floors dash, seats, hood and most of the glass was damaged. I intercepted the car on it's way to the crusher.
I learned a hard lesson on this project and would not go this route again. Do I like the car? Sorry but that's a big heck yes. I still have my 5 other original bathtubs to enjoy,
I expect some hate mail but that's OK. Thanks for looking.

no hate from me....just giving some feedback.

i would like to tub a 55, but leave the Packard power plant intact, but beef the pooh outa it. make a dragger.

if it was me i would just do that and not even paint it. i'd put in a roll cage and just one seat. i'd leave rust and all on the outside.

i'd have NOS and all that crazy fun stuff.

probably a standard suspension clipper would be better.

but it would fast as heck.
