Hello Packard people,
I have a 1952 200, it started and ran fine in October,
now, no starting at all. The solonoid clicks when I push down on the acclerator, but does not fire up the starter, with the starter dust cover/band off, the brush looks floppy, and theres a paper clip looking piece sticking out that doesnt look attached to anything.
It has good battery power, lights/electric fuel pump/int. lights, the red battery light comes on too.
any ideas? any one sell a replacement 6 volt delco remy?
Thanks for any open comments and suggestions!
Jeremy

G'day Jeremy,
to PackardInfo, but sorry I can't help with your problem. I'm sure the more experienced and knowledgeable here will join in and advise. Also, I invite you to include your '52 200 in the Packard Owner's Registry. Presently over 800 Packards listed and still growing!

Sounds like the starter has been mucked with. What happens if you try to jump directly to the starter lug from the battery. If it still doesn't do anything, then you go a bad starter. If the starter kicks, then you have a bad solenoid.

Do the lights dim when you try to start it?

First make sure battery is fully charged, and all connections are clean and tight. Six volt systems are extra critical of bad connections.

If still no joy you may have to take the starter to an auto electric shop. Surprisingly, most of them can repair or rebuild a starter that old with no trouble. But be sure to ask first as some don't want to bother.

One more quick question.
The car leaked out quite a bit of trans fluid over the cold winter months. (red fluid) Is there a sensor? Like, if it gets low, the car doesn't fire-up?
The car is one-hour away, so haven't tried any of the ideas yet. But appreciate any helpful tidbits!
Thanks

There is no sensor, so the car will run, it just may not move depending on how much fluid has been lost. Leakage from the front seal and oil pan is the most common problem.

Packard, fixed,
There were 2 spring pins in the starter that were
Messed up, one bent and one broken. No tension on
the spring, no start the car.
Thanks for the advice! Sure I'll be back for more!
