I have gathered the parts needed to install an R11 in my 48 Deluxe Touring. I need to understand where the overdrive lock out cable goes through the fire wall. If anyone has a picture of where it goes through I would appreciate it.

On my 1940, it goes through the same grommet as all the other wires, and coil cable.

Weston thanks for the info you have a beautiful car. Don't think that is possible on the 48 the harness is way up on the left side of the fire wall. But thanks for responding.

Dear TelephoneMan:

Available here is the Packard Manual

Page 30, Section VII - Clutch, trans, and overdrive.

It shows the routing of the cables in a picture.

Center of firewall, same as throttle cable.

I'm re-installing the overdrive cable which I just repaired. Unfortunately, I purchased my 1950 Standard Eight with the cable not installed. Also, the clamp / bracket is missing. I examined the possible re-installation of the cable by crawling under the car.

My question is -- How do I secure the "overdrive" end of the cable to the transmission / overdrive unit so the u-shaped fork will move the overdrive lever? What does the clamp or bracket look like? Would appreciate a diagram or photo.
