V8 hardtop Seat Belts

Has anyone got a car with original seat belts? I am wondering what the storage clip looks like on the originals or if anyone has installed modern belts in the original style and fabricated a clip. If not, what is the general consensus on a hardtop aftermarket style. Lap only, retractable or loose belt type or 3 point using the doorpost structure below the quarter window as the top anchor?

I have seen original seat belts and didn't care for them being attached to the doors. Memory says they were just the flip buckle style. I have a pair of older belts I intended to put in Best Other - they are the flip buckle (airplane?) style.

mine had a set in it when i got it. bolted to the floor and i believe they were the flip tops.

and if memory serves right....they were blue....LOL! ewwww!

also this seems like a very ineffective way to mount a seatbelt from a safty standpoint. kinda like the early side airbags in the doors.....they moved them to the seats for a good reason. seat follows you....door doesn't.

Check Studebaker parts sellers. The S-P accessory belts come along quite often in the Studebaker world. I would not not drill holes in my door panels. I bought brand new sets of lap belts for my 400 from a hotrod vendor on line ( I don't remember who). They are offered in almost any color and came with the floor mount hardware. I use them all the time.

I did the same as Joel. Seat belts are a must if we expect any chance of surviving a serious front end collision in a 55-56 Packard.

See YOU TUBEyoutube.com/watch?v=1_ptUrQOMPs and run a search for a 1959 collision test or similar.

Unbelievable !

Here is a vendor's site. The seem to have a good selection of different types and colors.

Thanks all. I am a believer in belts but haven't driven the car past the driveway enough to worry about them before. Was trying to get an idea of what others have done and add floor reinforcements while car is in the air. With the negative comments on the original door method, will rule that out. Still debating about a 3 point because of severity of lap belt only injuries in some cases. Comments???wescoperformance.com/retrofit-seat-belts-shoul-mt-no-door.html

If you are bolting through the floor I would try to make sure the bolt is positioned to go through the under floor support rail which the seats tracks bolt to. I think it provides a much stronger area for support then the bare floor sheetmetal and washers do.

Take a look under the car to see what I am referring to. This is the support rail that's parallel (fore to aft) directly underneath the seat track floor area.
